It is grown in sandy, dry to slightly moist soils in sun or some partial shade. Cultivation ĭrought tolerant, the plant is used as a ground cover, border plant or in a rock garden. It should be distinguished from Curio talinoides by its shorter, broader and often boat-shaped leaves. It was first formally described as Cacalia repens by Carl Linnaeus in 1767. Flowering season is usually between spring and autumn. The flowers appear as off-white from distance, but would have yellow and pink tinges on the stamen up-close. It produces small and round, pompom-like flowers that may superficially resemble a virus. It is a semi-trailing, low-growing dwarf shrub that forms a dense mat that reaches only about 20 cm in height and features silvery-blueish, finger-like fleshy leaves. Commonly named blue chalksticks, it is used as an ornamental plant. To make chalk sticks, the chalk or gypsum is pulverized to a fine powder, mixed with a binder (like clay), water and a pigment to form a putty, then formed into. Succulent blue chalksticks is a quietly creeping plant that will hug the ground at the front of a border or on a sunny slope. It will also tolerate a normal humidity level in most homes. The average household temperature will be fine for this plant. A succulent endemic to the Western Cape province of South Africa, it is typically found growing from crevices in rocky sandstone slopes. Blue Chalk Sticks like to be in warmer temps but may tolerate lower temperatures down to 20 degrees F intermittently if you have it on a porch or deck. ![]() Senecio serpens, is a species of the genus Curio in the Asteraceae family.
